Online Monitoring and Early warning In the Gulf of Aqaba

As the result of regional and public organizations' efforts an agreement of online monitoring and early warning in the Gulf of Aqaba have been signed on Monday 2nd of November, 2009, with the presence of Eng. Husni Abu Ghaida the chief commissioner of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone, Dr. Zyad Abu Ghararah the secretary of the Regional Organization for the Conservation of the Environment of the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, and representing Aqaba Development Corporation, Eng. Ghassan Ghanem SVP, Technical Services and Real Estate Projects Development.

The project aims to establish continuous monitoring on the water quality in the gulf of Aqaba by spreading sensitive equipment in the northern gulf and linking this equipment with a network to show the results on a special site on the Internet and allow its availability to the public and tourists through display panels to enhance transparency and social responsibilities.
Eng. Husni Abu Ghaida emphasized that this project is a fulfillment to the objectives of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone especially the conservation of the Aqaba gulf, which is utilized to serve tourism and industrial investments estimated with billions, from all kinds of pollutants.
Dr. Zyad Abu Ghararah said that this project is part of a central early alarm system that will include all the countries in the region. It should be mentioned that PERSGA is a governmental organization aiming at the rational use of living and non-living marine and coastal resources in a manner ensuring the optimum benefit of the present generation while maintaining the potential of that environment to satisfy the needs and aspirations of future generations. It includes Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Egypt, Somalia, Yemen and Djibouti.
